Tre cause, in ordine.

What to tell us, so we can help quickly

The questions we get most often

"I hear nothing in ‘Follow the route’."

Three causes, in order. The setting "Read the steps out loud" is off (Settings → Voice): with it off, both the synthesiser and the recorded voice stay silent. The device volume is at zero: the iPhone side switch on silent does not mute the app, the volume does. VoiceOver or TalkBack is on: the app deliberately stays quiet and lets the screen reader speak. The "Listen" button, on the other hand, always speaks.

"I changed phone, or lost it: where are my routes?"

Nowhere else: there is no server, and we hold no copy. In Settings, "Export all routes" produces one file with everything in it — photos and recordings included — to keep wherever you like: an email to yourself, iCloud or Drive, a colleague. On the new device, open it with "Open a route you received" and the routes come back, as copies. Do it now and then: it is your backup, and the only one.

"The .iwalking file will not open."

On the phone, just tap the attachment in Mail, or "Open with → iWalking O&M" from Files or AirDrop; or, in the route list, "Open a route you received" and pick the file. If you see "made with a newer version", update the app: a newer route is never opened halfway, on purpose. Only files made by iWalking O&M open.

"How do I send it to a colleague, photos and voices included?"

Inside the route: Share → "Whole route (for a colleague)". It is one file with everything inside; the recipient needs iWalking O&M (it is free) and can edit it. To print it: Share → "Printable sheet (PDF)", an A4 page designed for a black-and-white photocopier.

"I cannot read the stamps, or the text."

Settings → Appearance: the "Yellow on black" or "Dark" theme, and "Larger text", which adds to the system size. On a step's card, "Size" enlarges the stamp up to a third of the canvas, and every stamp always has a contrast outline, even on a photo. In "Follow the route" the text is huge by itself.

"Can I use a live map?"

No, and it is a choice: a route must open in an underpass with no signal, and must look the same three years from now. Take a screenshot of the map and use it as the background with "From a photo". The app is not a navigator: it does not know where you are and does not use location.

"With VoiceOver the canvas seems silent."

The canvas announces itself ("Route canvas, N steps") and points to the list: "Step list" is the view made for screen readers — every row says number, stamp in words, text and attachments, and reorders with the "Move up" and "Move down" buttons. Rotating and resizing a stamp also work with buttons, on the step's card. A tap on the canvas with VoiceOver places the stamp in the centre: then you move it from the card.

"The background photo disappeared."

It should not: photos are copied into the app's folder, not read from the camera roll. If it happens — especially after an update — write to us with the app version: it is a defect, and we want to know.

„In ‚Weg abgehen‘ hört man nichts.“
